Boston has been reshaped by the power of young people; come learn how. Led by I Have A Future, a youth-powered movement for jobs, justice, and policy change in Massachusetts, this hands-on workshop uncovers the often-hidden victories of youth organizing.

This three-part workshop series invites participants to explore personal and collective stories through mixed-media collage and clay. Drawing on practices of visual storytelling, participants will use recycled visuals, clay, and written reflections to craft layered, symbolic pieces. The series is designed to be inclusive and accessible to artists of all levels, emphasizing art as a sacred, healing, and political act. Workshop 1: In this opening workshop, participants will reflect on their personal and collective stories through memory-mapping and collage-making. Guided journaling prompts and storytelling exercises will help participants uncover fragments of identity and belonging, which they will then transform into visual form using found materials.

The Organizing Center, an organization committed to developing organizers base building and resilience practices, will lead a two-part, in-depth workshop on organizing. We’ll start by breaking down what power is, the forms it takes, and how it moves in our communities and institutions. Participants will map their organizing landscapes, and identify where decisions are really made.

Ujima Cafe is a space where community members can connect, relax, and engage with Ujima’s work in a casual setting. Held through the spring, summer, and fall, we combine office hours with a laid-back hangout vibe, offering free coffee, snacks, and curated menus.

Building on our maps from week 1's workshop, we’ll dig into strategies for shifting power through organizing: growing relationships, aligning around shared goals, and taking coordinated action. Participants will workshop concrete tactics and practice making strategic choices that strengthen their collective influence and win change

The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute is a cultural and educational center that shares the history of the Civil Rights Movement and its ongoing impact in Birmingham. In this workshop, they will highlight Birmingham’s history and guide us through the museum to explore stories of organizing, transformation, and moments that shaped civil rights.
