Join Amanda Everich, Community Facilitator and Education Manager for Black Farmer Fund, in a discussion on how we utilize resources, including land, when we are thinking of time and place. Amanda will explore the history of Black farmers’ and their ongoing existence in the USA, and the history of the Black Farmer Fund. She will share resources, explore the process of socioemotional to concrete investments, and discuss what belonging and land stewardship looks like today.

Join us for a Member Orientation with the Boston Ujima Project! This interactive session is a chance to learn more about what membership looks like at the Boston Ujima Project. We’ll learn about the Ujima ecosystem and explore the different membership options and journeys available. Whether you’re new to Ujima or a longtime supporter, all are welcome!

This workshop series focuses on the question: how can we put our artistic practice in service of frontline communities facing climate disaster, land dispossession, poverty, and repression? In answering, we find new avenues for growth in our own artistic expression, more meanings for art’s uses, and methods for both individual and community expression. In this session we learn how activists use a shared analysis of Philippine society to build a comprehensive movement across class and sectors. We’ll learn about repression and collective resistance from Philippine political prisoners and human rights organizations that Liyang supports through their Defend the Defenders campaign. We will paint placards that express solidarity, build unity, mobilize resistance, and replenish a culture of hope in the face of state violence against the people. These workshops are co-facilitated by members of Liyang Western Massachusetts who have visited and integrated with anti-imperialist community organizations in the Philippines. We will share creative activities and practical tools informed by stories and forms of struggle across Indigenous, youth, queer, women, urban, and rural communities.

Ujima Café is our version of a community hangout: a relaxed space to sip, snack, and catch up with Ujima’s work in real time. Part social hour, part open office, this is a place to try curated menus, and engage in real talk with staff and members alike.

The Boston Ujima Project, in partnership with the ICA/Boston, presents a special screening of TCB – The Toni Cade Bambara School of Organizing, a biography of the influential writer, filmmaker and cultural worker, who with humor and deep insight, inspired a generation of artists to dedicate themselves to community empowerment. The film is structured as a series of lessons on cultural organizing, gleaned from Bambara’s life and shared by her friends, colleagues and students. Filmmaker Louis Massiah will be in attendance for post-screening talkback.
