School for Uncommon Practice
About
The School for Uncommon Practice is a member-focused art space, facilitated by Ujima community members to extend their artistic skills and practices back into our communities. Each learning opportunity can be up to 2 sessions. We seek facilitators who are excited about engaging participants in hands-on artistic practices that offer collective learning opportunities that are free and accessible to our BIPOC and working class communities.
2026-2027 Art Facilitator Open Call
Within the Center for Art, Invention and Uncommon Practice is a school. We have been building this free community led arts school practice for years under different names (aka micro-learning pods). Through each artist-led workshop series, participants are encouraged to explore various artistic mediums and nurture their creative abilities.
We host these workshops every first Wednesday of the month. Sessions may be one-offs or a 2-part series, with dual sessions building on the previous one. Past facilitators have included painters Shantel Miller and Tomashi Jackson, filmmaker Mercedes Loving-Manly, and many more!
Deadline to apply: Monday, May 18th, 2026
