Biplaw Mondays is a weekly open office hours series offering current and aspiring food business owners the opportunity to meet directly with Ujima’s Restaurant Fellow Biplaw Rai for candid conversation and guidance. In these sessions Biplaw will provide advice and insight into the realities of operating food businesses. Come with your questions and curiosities about anything from navigating startup challenges, logistics and staffing to community engagement, branding, and growth. As Ujima’s Restaurant Fellow, Biplaw Rai brings a wealth of experience as both a restaurateur and community organizer. Grounded in the histories of Black cooperative economics, mutual aid traditions, and solidarity economies, this workshop invites participants to reflect on how communities have historically met one another’s needs outside of traditional market systems—and how those practices continue to evolve today. Together, we will explore timebanking not only as a tool for exchange but as a form of democratic infrastructure that strengthens trust, deepens interdependence, and expands community governance capacity.

Join us to hear from MAMA (Metro Atlanta Mutual Aid) Fund as they share lessons learned from building a community fund and a timebank as tools for rapid response and longer term mutual aid. MAMA is a member-led mutual aid collective of monetary and non-monetary resources. Together, we will learn how they've built neighbor-to-neighbor fundraising campaigns, identified value alignment for potential larger donors, redistributed funds while centering folks impacted by intersectional oppression, and guided community conversations on non-monetary ways to resource ourselves.

Making My First Demo, led by Dominic "Diggity Dom" Glaude, is a hands-on workshop series where musicians learn the basics of recording and producing their first demo. This is a classroom-style workshop. This series is in person at Boston Neighborhood Network, attendees should expect to participate in all sessions for maximum benefit. In the third session, participants will learn how to mix their recordings and production layers into a cohesive, polished demo. We’ll cover key tools like volume balancing, panning, and adding effects like reverb or delay.
