Join Helena, a youth cooperative organizer with Bilbao-based TAZEBAEZ, to hear more about her work in stabilizing a strong young cooperators' community in the Basque Country in Spain. Helena is broadening a cooperative legacy and works to re-write narratives which will respond to a new generation’s needs, building a more solid cooperative movement in the Basque region in collaboration with Konfekoop (a cooperative confederation).

The Boston Center For Community Ownership partners with individuals, grassroots membership organizations, and municipalities to transform co-op ideas from vision to reality – No matter what stage of development you are in! Creating cooperative enterprises is an exciting and inspiring (but challenging) process, and it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Becoming a business owner always carries risks, even in a cooperative. In this workshop, Learn how the BCCO provides technical assistance to the Ujima Good Business Alliance and more about building pathways to worker ownership. While it’s certainly possible to start a new co-op on your own, the process will be smoother and easier with some guidance from those who have been there before and know the nuts and bolts. At BCCO, co-op organizers live in the communities we serve, and have extensive practical experience in cooperative and small business management.

What happens when artists reclaim the means of cultural production? In this story-sharing and strategy-based session, Dorchester Art Project reflects on its evolution from a traditional arts space into an artist-led cooperative. Learn why co-ops are critical for artist survival, how DAP is building collective infrastructure, and the ways in which art spaces can be incubators for solidarity economy principles. Through dialogue and reflection, we’ll explore the power of shared ownership, the transformation of creative labor into sustainable livelihood, and the everyday miracles that emerge when artists organize together.

Ujima Cafe is a space where community members can connect, relax, and engage with Ujima’s work in a casual setting. Held twice a month through the spring, summer, and fall, we combine office hours with a laid-back hangout vibe, offering free coffee, snacks, and curated menus.
