Spark FM is a digital radio platform that was created to empower and amplify the underserved voices of the community. Based in Boston, MA, their station provides a local and professional platform where DJ’s, personalities, and artists have the unique opportunity to create their own messaging, mixes, and music, while engaging listeners on both the neighborhood and national levels. One of their primary goals is to intentionally invest in the community through partnerships, community service, and providing access to important information and resources.
In April 2025, our Community Standards Committee joyously extended an invitation to Spark FM to join the UGBA, which they graciously accepted. Joining the Alliance is a rigorous process that involves compliance with our 36 Good Business Standards.
The Community Standards Committee was excited by their outstanding good business practices, including:
Product or Service Mission: Embracing Boston’s diversity, Spark FM equips local talent with industry-standard experience and offers cost-efficient advertising for small businesses. As a local station with global impact, they engages the community through events, partnerships with schools, internships, and mentorship for aspiring broadcasters. Spark FM delivers timely, relevant news and meaningful programming on education, politics, finance, and entertainment, while offering ways for supporters to invest in its work.
Supplier Diversity: All of Spark FM small business clients are BIPOC owned.
Transgender and Gender Nonconforming Workforce: Approximately 17% of Spark FM staff identify as LGBTQ.
Community Power: Spark FM demonstrates a deep commitment to community through initiatives ranging from uplifting underrepresented voices in broadcasting and providing affordable advertising for small businesses, to offering youth mentorship, educational programming, and inclusive community engagement across Boston.
Join us in welcoming Spark FM to the UGBA!
